Day Care Center

Facts

This project is run by an NGOs (Non governmental institution) in the administration of the projects. Children are sent by the Governmental body responsible for orphans .

Detais

The center has 40 children. The facilities are very good. It has a nice garden .

Need of volunteers:

There is not enough personnel to give the best attention to the children.Volunteers are needed to assist in recreational and cultural activities with the children . Volunteers will help the older children with their English homework and will also have the opportunity to participate in sports, recreational and cultural activities

Skills

- To love and care about children in need of attention

-To be patience with very sensitive children

-To like to play and tell stories to children

•  To be able to communicate in Spanish ( Intermediate Spanish is required. If the volunteer does not have the required level, it is advisable to take the Spanish course offered by Volunteering CostaRica

Accommodation ¨Volunteer will live with a local family in the community.

Location:

This project is located in a beautiful village just one hour by bus from San Jose (The capital )

Requirements: A CV (Resume) has to be submitted before volunteer wil have a confirmation of a placement.

CHIDREN DAY CARE CENTRE ON THE CARIBBEAN

Details

This project is run by an NGO similar to Save the Children.. The day care center is part of an institution that looks after orphans. There are three full time teachers. They speak English (kind of a dialect) The day care center plays an important role for single mothers in the community. Most of the children come from extreme poverty backgrounds. The center is the only safe place for the children.

Facts

The center opened its doors in June 2004. The main reason for the establishment of this children's institution near Puerto Limon was the big number of orphaned or abandoned children in this poverty-stricken eastern region of the country.

The center has two sections : one day-care center for up 80 children from the surroundings villages and the orphans section with up to 200 orphans.

Need of Volunteers

There is no enough personnel to give one to one attention and to help with daily activities like games, lunch time, etc.

Main Activities

•  help children with their English homework

•  help teachers in the classrooms

•  help teachers during lunch and break times

•  participation in sports

•  art and dance are highly appreciated

Location

This project is located in Limon. Limon is on the Caribbean coast. There are very good bus services from San Jose to Limon or Limon to the main touristic spots like Puerto Viejo.
